What  Are Fixed Ceramic Dental Bridges?

Dental bridges are used to replace missing teeth and gum tissues. They are attached to neighbouring teeth and cemented into place. The underlying substructure can be made of a ceramic material or metal , but the cosmetic restorations are typically of porcelain. If you are taller or shorter than average , all ceramic dental bridges may be the best choice. If others normally see you from either above or below , the metal on a bridge or crown is more likely to be visible.

Metal VS Ceramic Bridge work

Tooth-coloured bridges used to only be made of porcelain fused to metal. But with the new technologies available today, they can be made entirely of stronger ceramics. To have enough strength to withstand biting forces, porcelain bridges used to always be built upon a metal core. The dark metal inside the porcelain bridge could cause a dark blue line to show at the edge of the bridge. More advanced metal reinforced bridges rarely have that problem now, but the metalwork still needs skilful technical ability and masking to be hidden well.

New breakthroughs in bonding materials and stronger ceramics now make it possible to make bridges entirely out of porcelain with reinforced Ceramic sub- structures, which then can be bonded to the teeth.

All ceramic dental bridges maintain a translucency that makes them virtually undetectable. Without metal, any problem of a dark blue line at the edge of the gums is eliminated. This allows us to place the edge of the bridge above the gum-line where needed, which is healthier for your tooth and gums.

Types of Ceramic Dental Bridges

  • 3M™ ESPE™ Lava™ Ceramic Bridge system is an innovative CAD/CAM technology using a zirconium oxide base. The aesthetics of Lava ceramic bridges represent the optimum in all-ceramic systems. Preparations require removal of less tooth structure. Colourable frameworks that are thin and translucent ensure a natural and vital appearance. Lava bridges provide some of the most durable and aesthetic all-ceramic restorations available today.
  • Cercon® Zirconia Ceramic Bridge is an innovative system for aesthetic metal-free bridge. The reliability of  Zirconia restorations is backed by more than nine years of proven clinical success. The system is used to fabricate anterior or posterior single units or multi-unit bridge restorations out of translucent, bio-compatible Zirconia, the strongest and toughest dental ceramic.
  • Procera Ceramic Bridges are similar to Lava, but the milled ceramic on the inside is a more translucent alumina, rather than an opaque white material. The alumina is shaded, and then the final aesthetics of the crown is achieved in the baked-on outer layer.
